Friendswood police officer stops burglary for out-of-town friend

When Arceneaux didn’t know was how much the on-the-job training and experience that Blair has would benefit him. Blair is a Friendswood Police Officer.

Recently, Blair’s phone rang about midnight. It was Arceneaux, calling from San Antonio. He had received a call from his home alarm company. He was asking Blair to check it out.

Blair walked down to the house while talking to Arceneaux on the phone. He said the porch light was on and no cars were in the driveway, just the way Arceneaux had left things.

Arceneaux asked Blair to check the front door.

Blair saw movement inside and Arceneaux recalls Blair saying, “Dude, someone is in your house. I am looking right at them.”

Blair went back to his house, got his jacket, badge and weapon, then called the Sherriff’s Department.

As he headed back to Arceneaux’s house, on the phone with the dispatcher, Blair saw a car slowly moving down the street.

“I already knew from my law enforcement experience and training that the way the car was rolling and driving, that it was involved in the burglary. So I told the dispatcher that they needed to stop the vehicle,” Blair said.

The guy in the car probably saw Blair and called the men inside the house, telling them about Blair.

Those guys got out of the back door of the house and the driver tried to get away.

Brazoria County Sherriff’s Deputies, the Pearland Police, Pearland K-9 unit and Houston Police Fox helicopter all got involved in the pursuit.

All the suspects were captured a short time later. Blair said they have been linked to multiple burglaries in the Manvel-Pearland area.

Arceneaux said, “Because of his (Blair’s) help, they were able to catch the guys before they got out of the neighborhood and also recover all of my property,” a weapon, jewelry, coins and other personal items.

“If he wouldn’t have stopped them, they probably would have stayed in there for a while and taken more than that,” Arceneaux said.

Five hours later, when Arceneaux got home from San Antonio, Blair was still at the house.

He’s grateful to have Blair as a neighborhood and friend. “It pays to get to know each other and exchange information,” said Arceneaux.

From the “don’t try this at home” category of advice, Blair says that in a similar situation, the average citizen should not interfere. “They should back off and call 9-1-1. It’s not worth them getting injured.
