Ten-year-old launches books
"A good child brings honour to his parents," was the verdict of many when 10-year-old Adeoluwa Samuel Sogunle presented two books he authored, ‘Life in the City' and ‘The Unstoppable Unity'.
The event, which held at Terra Kulture, Lagos, attracted a number of people including prolific author, Akachi Adimora- Ezeigbo, and Dagga Tolar, chair, Lagos State chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).
Adimora- Ezeigbo, who chaired the event, said, "It is a thing of joy, and I am here to support this child who has done so well by writing these books." She added that, "I am always available to encourage young ones because they are the future of the society. Imagination is not something everyone is privileged to use so well, but this boy has done well. I can only ask his parents to encourage and support him. The sky is just the beginning."
It is the children's turn
Eyitowunni Ileri, a student from Whitesands College, Lagos, reviewed ‘The Unstoppable Unity'. "This book, which has three heroes, shows the depth of Adeoluwa's imagination and his skill.... The story is captivating and full of suspense. I had to hold my breath at a point because I just didn't know what will come next," Eyitowunmi said.
Reviewing ‘Life in the Big City' was Adeniyi Dumininu, a student of Dowen College, Lekki. "The eight chapter book is full of lessons ranging from being alert at all times and the need to understand our environment. The language of the book is simple yet so understandable. It is written in a narrative style and this makes the reader to be intrigued throughout. Though it is targeted at junior readers, it can be read by all."
Honour to the name
Talking about the books, Adeoluwa said, "I am so excited to be on stage and talk about the books that have taken quite long for me to write. I want to [thank] my parents who have given me their unreserved support."
He also disclosed that the books won't be his last. "I don't think this is the end of my writing. Writing is part of me and I will always be a writer."
The parents of the young writer were also happy about his achievement. His father, Gbenga Sogunle, said, "Adeoluwa has always loved books. He loves reading at lot and at a point in time, he started to pen down his thoughts and we helped him to develop specific storylines. I am so happy that his dreams have come true. This presentation is to appreciate Adeoluwa for his labour and also to encourage every child to develop their God-given talents.
