Lush Places: lighting up the skies for the Queen's jubilee
FALL in places Lush and our thoughts turn to sunshine when we plan two holiday extravaganza to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen (God bless her) in early June
Will we have another street or will we have to deal with gatecrashers surrounding villages to eat all foods without bringing any to share?
Or woman rich in the big house that has a salad for the common table and then sought reimbursement for 5 pounds?
Are we going to run the gauntlet of the businessman who insisted we did not niggled announced a road closure order and led headlong into a row of trestle tables just to make a point?
And please God, do not let Mr. Grigg and the guy down the road from The Full Monty routine only when the DJ at the disco in the open square in the cheek You can leave your hat. There are times as you need to see a player with a plastic Union Jack design strategically placed on a torso too familiar.
But we will have a tag. We got to have a lighthouse. The last was shot by mistake for firewood. And just as we expect to make a new a telegraph pole and a brazier, a letter comes from grace "pageantmaster" tags for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Apparently, 2012 tags will be lit throughout the UK, Channel Islands and the Commonwealth on the occasion of the jubilee.
He said that there will be bonfire beacons and beacons "tower", all lighted 10:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday, June 4
"The Beacon Church Tower is ideal for the towers of churches, historic homes and buildings with flat roofs," said Bruno Peek OBE MVO RPT.(The capital letters are his, by the way. I think it is intended to add a sense of dignity and importance for the occasion).
He continues: "Places to date for this type of tag are, HM Tower of London, at Hillsborough Castle, Lambeth Palace, the Palace of Holyrood House, Windsor Castle, Killyleagh Castle, Palace and St James's Palace Bishopthrope. "
So no church then. Just castles and palaces. Too bad he is not called the Beacon Palace.
Anyway, Mr. Pic (OBE MVO more guff OPR) continues: "This tag may be related to a celebration in a city or a village hall is ideal for the thousands of churches, city, parish and community councils throughout the country, providing them with a single event, but profitable. "
Excited? Like to get your hands on one? M. Peek (OBE MVO RPT etc, etc, VPL, ROFL, LMFAO) usefully points you in the right direction: "To ensure the delivery of this tag for May 25, 2012, purchase orders must be placed directly with Bullfinch gas appliances by not later than 12th March 2012.
Win a Trip to Westeros!
The grand prize winners gets a week in Northern Ireland, with accomodation at the Killyleagh Castle Towers as well as a trip to Castle Ward and Tollymore Forest Park, major locations while filming the show. "Rumour has it that it contains magical woodland and mysterious medieval ruins!" sayeth Sky. (And maybe you can wheedle a visit to Castle Black as well, though that doesn't seem to be on the itinerary). The Paint Hall and the quarry are closed sets. (Unless the Paint Hall is being used by some other production at present, but even then, it would still be closed). I believe Castle Ward is open to the public, however. If you get over to Scotland, there is also Doune Castle, where Monty Python filmed HOLY GRAIL and we shot the Winterfell feast scene and several exteriors. That's open to the public too. Question. Have you ever considered putting yourself up for auction? Winner gets George RR Martin to hang out with for a couple hours. Kinda like what they did in Groundhog Day, and Full House, with Uncle Jessie. Proceeds could go to some charity, blah blah, whatever. Or you could just pocket the cash, which is what I'd do, because you'd have to put up with some eccentric, zealous fan like myself for two hours :) I'd so make a bid. I have some awesome antique chess sets, some insane Persian miniatures of middle eastern heroes bequeathed to me which were originally bought at market in Isfahan, Iran before the shaw was toppled. Plus I also have tons of Wild Cards stuff, most of which I'm sure you have and are probably tired of. I also recently bought some garage space in the artist warehouse district which I'll either convert into my own mead hall or a lifesize chessboard.
