Four Delaware Valley Churches to Host Joint Summer Education Series

Titusville, NJ, June 29, 2011 --( PR.com )-- Presbyterian churches in Titusville, Mt. Airy, Lambertville and Stockton, New Jersey, have partnered to present a series of summer lectures July 17-20 designed to offer church members and area residents an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of Christian scripture and to study its applications in modern life. C. Clifton Black, Otto A. Piper Professor of Biblical Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary, will present the lectures, which will focus on exploring Jesus’s parables as they are presented in the synoptic gospels: Matthew, Mark, and Luke. The four-day lecture series, which is free and open to the public, will rotate among the host churches and begin at 7 p.m. each evening. The Sunday, July 17 lecture will be hosted at the First Presbyterian Church of Titusville, located at 48 River Dr. in Titusville; the Monday, July 18 lecture will be hosted by the Mt. Airy Presbyterian Church, located at 39 Mt. Airy Village Rd. in Mt. Airy Village, Lambertville; the Tuesday, July 19 lecture will be hosted by the Lambertville Presbyterian Church located at 31 N. Union St. in Lambertville; and the Wednesday, July 20 lecture will be hosted by the Stockton Presbyterian Church, located at 22 S. Main St. in Stockton. Each lecture will end with light refreshments. Black’s lecture series, titled “Pondering Jesus’ Parables,” will allow participants to study the nature and meaning of Jesus’ parables as they are expressed through the theological perspectives of the Gospels according to Matthew, Mark, and Luke, and, on the last evening of the series, Black will discuss the life and work of Jesus himself as a parable for the coming Kingdom of God. While the lectures will be delivered as a thematic series, each is designed to stand alone, in case some participants’ schedules will allow them to attend only part of the series. Black, who earned his Ph.D. from Duke University in 1986, served on the faculties of the University of Rochester and Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, before arriving at Princeton Theological Seminary, where he is a former chairman of the Department of Biblical Studies.
